A deadly crash involving a tanker truck shut down a busy interchange in Bucks County overnight, leaving one person dead and traffic crawling through the Monday morning commute.
The single-vehicle wreck happened on the ramp that links eastbound I-276-the Pennsylvania Turnpike-with US 1 in Bensalem, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene shortly after 1 a.m. when the tanker overturned and came to rest on its roof.

News Of Philadelphia‘s SkyForce10 helicopter arrived over the scene around 6:30 a.m., capturing aerial images that showed the mangled tanker lying on its top beside the ramp. Debris littered the roadway and a section of guardrail appeared twisted from the impact.
PennDOT confirmed that the crash was fatal, though officials have not released the identity of the person who died. Investigators have not said what caused the driver to lose control or whether any hazardous materials were being hauled at the time.
Traffic was restricted in the area while heavy-duty wreckers worked to upright the tanker and remove it from the roadway. PennDOT urged motorists to seek alternate routes, warning that cleanup could extend into the morning rush.
State police and the Bucks County Coroner’s Office are handling the investigation. No additional details about possible citations, road conditions, or mechanical issues have been released.
This is a developing story. News Of Philadelphia will provide updates as authorities release more information.
