Authorities are investigating the incident after a DoorDash driver in Indiana was captured on video spraying a food delivery with an irritant substance, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office said. No arrests have been made and the driver’s identity has not been confirmed, according to the sheriff’s office statement.

Mark Cardin, the customer, told NBC News that the video shows a female driver approaching his home’s front door, placing a paper bag in front of it, and moments later, after a glitch in the app that dropped a few seconds from the video, spraying something onto the delivery before walking away.

Cardin said his wife started choking and vomited after taking a bite of the meal last weekend. He added, “I definitely inhaled some fumes off of it,” and later checked the doorbell camera footage. He reported that his wife’s health improved within 10 minutes. Cardin also said he tried contacting the driver, but the person had blocked him.

Company Response

DoorDash said it had revoked the driver’s access to the platform and is cooperating with law enforcement. The company added, “We have absolutely zero tolerance for this type of appalling behavior.”

Sheriff Noah Robinson said that if the allegations are true, the driver could face charges ranging from battery, a misdemeanor, to food tampering, a felony.
