FBI agents in Philadelphia have spent 2025 chasing fugitives, dismantling drug rings, and preparing for a surge of events slated for 2026, the city’s local news outlet NBC10 reports.
Special Agent In Charge Wayne Jacobs heads the Philadelphia field office, overseeing the agency’s day‑to‑day operations in the city.
Jacobs said the past year demanded constant vigilance as agents tackled a wide range of crimes.
“Each and every day, employees of the FBI show up committed to pursing justice and holding people accountable,” Agent Jacobs said.
During the last 12 months, agents handled dozens of major cases, pursued fugitives wanted for violent offences, secured arrests of suspects linked to armored truck robberies, and most notably, apprehended 33 alleged members of the Weymouth Street Gang.
The sweep of the violent drug‑trafficking organization operating in Kensington was part of a joint federal and local law‑enforcement effort.
Jacobs emphasized that agents are not slowing down and are already focusing on the next potential criminal organization in the region.
“We’re out there, day in and day out and the next Weymouth Street investigation, or something like it, is already in motion,” Jacobs explained. “So, it should be a warning to folks who are engaging in that behavior that your time is going to come.”
Philadelphia’s calendar for 2026 includes hosting FIFA World Cup matches, celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday, and drawing massive crowds for Wawa Welcome America.
Jacobs told NBC10 that planning is already underway with coordination between local, state and federal partners, addressing everything from crowd safety to cyber threats.
“The importance for us is to make sure were aligning resources where they need to be,” Jacobs said.
