Eagles Prepare for Raiders Game Without Star Players Johnson and Carter

Philadelphia’s Eagles enter Sunday’s matchup with the Raiders without two of their star players, as both Lane Johnson and Jalen Carter miss the game.

Injury Report

The Eagles held a short‑week walkthrough Wednesday but listed Johnson (foot) and Carter (shoulders) as non‑participants on their estimated report. The first practice of the week will be on Thursday afternoon.

  • Did not participate: DT Jalen Carter (shoulders), T Lane Johnson (foot)
  • Limited: G Landon Dickerson (calf)
  • Full: LB Zack Baun (hand), LS Charley Hughlett (abdomen)

Johnson, 35, suffered a Lisfranc sprain in his foot in the first half against the Lions back on Nov. 16. He was not placed on Injured Reserve, signaling the Eagles hoped he could return sooner than the four‑week window he’d have to miss had the Eagles put him on IR and he has already missed three games.

Even though he’s now in his 13th NFL season, the All‑Pro right tackle has still been great this season. In his 10 starts, Johnson hasn’t given up a single sack in 251 pass blocking snaps and has given up just 7 pressures. The splits with and without Johnson have been well‑noted in recent seasons and the Eagles have lost the three games without him this season. Here’s the Eagles record with and without Johnson (including playoffs) since the start of 2016:

  • With Johnson: 96‑41‑1
  • Without Johnson: 12‑26

While the Raiders are a 2‑11 team, it would be nice to get Johnson back for this game for a matchup against star edge rusher Maxx Crosby, who plays almost exclusively on the left side of the defense.

Carter had a procedure on both shoulders last week and missed the Chargers game. He was also not placed on IR so the Eagles clearly hope there’s a chance he could return within a four‑week window. Without Carter in Los Angeles, the Eagles still had a disruptive game up front.

Dickerson injured his calf in the first half against the Chargers but was able to return later in the game. He has dealt with several different injuries this season.

The Eagles activated Charley Hughlett’s practice window on Wednesday after releasing Cal Adomitis, who was the replacement long snapper. Hughlett had core muscle surgery earlier this year but will be back for the Raiders game on Sunday.

Rookie offensive tackle Myles Hinton’s three‑week practice window closed on Wednesday so the sixth‑round pick from Michigan will spend the rest of the season on IR. The Eagles did the same thing with rookie lineman Willie Lampkin. They both practiced for three weeks and were then shut down for the season.

With key players sidelined, the Eagles’ preparation for the Raiders game hinges on depth and coaching adjustments.

Key Takeaways

  • Lane Johnson and Jalen Carter are out for the Raiders game due to injuries.
  • Johnson’s 251 pass‑blocking snaps remain pressure‑free, but the team has struggled without him.
  • Rookie linemen Myles Hinton and Willie Lampkin are placed on IR after three‑week practice windows.
