  • Why it matters: Faster trend discovery could reshape how media, marketers and researchers spot emerging stories

Google has rebuilt its Trends Explore page around Gemini, injecting generative-AI smarts into the tool content creators rely on to track what the world is searching for. The overhaul, announced Wednesday, is rolling out on desktop starting today.

The new side panel scans your chosen topic and auto-populates the graph with up to eight related search terms. Hover to edit any term, or accept the AI’s suggestions and watch the timeline redraw in seconds.

Key upgrades

  • Gemini suggests related trends you might miss
  • Compare more terms on one graph
  • Rising-queries list doubled
  • Refreshed color-coded icons match each line

Google demoed the feature with dog breeds. Type “golden retriever” and Gemini adds “beagle,” “labrador,” “hypoallergenic dog breeds” and “large dog breeds” without extra keystrokes. Filters for country, time range and property remain for fine-tuning.

The move is the latest in Google’s drive to weave Gemini into its most-used products. Search, Gmail, Maps and Docs have already received AI boosts.
