Travis Konecny turned frustration into fuel Monday night, scoring both goals in a 2-1 win over the streaking Golden Knights that snapped the Flyers’ season-worst six-game losing streak.
At a Glance
- Konecny scored twice, including the game-winning shorthanded breakaway goal
- Flyers had lost six straight and trailed 1-0 in 32 of 48 games this season
- Philadelphia now sits three points behind Pittsburgh for third in Metropolitan Division
- Why it matters: The 28-year-old winger’s surge gives the club its best playoff hope in years
Konecny’s Breakthrough Night
Back in September, head coach Rick Tocchet saw the hunger in Konecny’s eyes.
“He’s a super kid, he has got a lot of leadership qualities, he knows there’s another level of that,” Tocchet said. “And he’s tired of losing, so he’s pissed.”
That anger translated to production against Vegas. Konecny opened scoring in the first period, his second straight game with an early goal. The Flyers have struggled with slow starts, facing a 1-0 deficit in two-thirds of their games this season.
The winger wasn’t done. With the score tied 1-1 in the third period, Konecny broke in alone while killing a penalty and buried his 11th shorthanded tally in the last four seasons. Only Florida’s Sam Reinhart has more in that span with 13.
Playoff Push Intensifies
The victory vaulted Philadelphia within striking distance of a postseason berth. Entering Tuesday, the club trails the Penguins by three points for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division.
Konecny’s personal numbers support the surge:

- 17 goals and 26 assists through 47 games
- On pace for a second straight 70-plus point season
- 10-1-0 team record when he records multiple points
- 11 multi-point efforts this season
A Decade of Drought
The alternate captain is playing in his 10th season with the Flyers organization. He has reached the playoffs only twice during that stretch and watched the club miss the postseason the last five consecutive years.
“He knows there’s a process of getting there,” Tocchet said in September. “He has bought in, he has worked extremely hard in practice. You can tell that he’s setting a pace. … He’s a big part of this.”
Konecny echoed that commitment, understanding individual milestones carry little weight without team success.
Looking Ahead
Monday’s performance offered a glimpse of what sustained excellence from Konecny could mean. If he continues producing at this rate, the Flyers have a realistic path to ending their playoff drought.
The winger’s emotional engagement-evident in his visible frustration during losing streaks and his jubilation after big wins-has become a barometer for the entire roster. When Konecny plays with edge, the Flyers tend to follow.
Philadelphia faces a compressed schedule down the stretch, making each remaining game critical. With the Metropolitan Division bunched tightly together, one extended hot streak could flip the standings.
Konecny has proven he can provide that spark. The question now becomes whether he can sustain it long enough to drag the Flyers back into playoff relevance.
